Engineering Fundamentals of Internal Combustion Engines

 Willard W. Pulkrabek

This applied thermoscience text explores the basic principles and applications of various types of internal combustion engines, with a major emphasis on reciprocating engines. It covers both spark ignition and compression ignition engines―as well as those operating on four-stroke cycles and on two stroke cycles―ranging in size from small model airplane engines to the larger stationary engines.

Diesels Afloat

Pat Manley
Fernhurst Books04-Apr-2007    300 pages

Diesel engines are installed in just about every yacht and in most large motorboats. This book explains how to prevent problems, troubleshoot and make repairs using safe techniques. It will help you save money on expensive bills for yard work you could do yourself. Diesels Afloat covers everything from how the diesel engine works to engine electrics, from fault finding to out of season lay-up. With this guide and your engineÕs manual you can be confident in dealing with any problem, and get the best performance from your boat.

Diesel engines - troubleshooting and repair

Paul Dempsey
McGraw Hill Professional, 1995 - Transportation - 378 pages

Hearing the sound of an engine you have just repaired is especially satisfying when you consider how costly it can be to pay for professional help. In this easy-to-use guide, author Paul Dempsey demystifies diesel technology, explaining everything you need to know to troubleshoot and fix problems with engines found in farm and lawn equipment, boats, air compressors, and generators.

Diesel Engine Transient Operation

Traditionally, the study of internal combustion engines operation has focused on the steady-state performance. However, the daily driving schedule of automotive and truck engines is inherently related to unsteady conditions. In fact, only a very small portion of a vehicle’s operating pattern is true steady-state, e. g. , when cruising on a motorway. Moreover, the most critical conditions encountered by industrial or marine engines are met during transients too. Unfortunately, the transient operation of turbocharged diesel engines has been associated with slow acceleration rate, hence poor driveability, and overshoot in particulate, gaseous and noise emissions. Despite the relatively large number of published papers, this very important subject has been treated in the past scarcely and only segmentally as regards reference books. Merely two chapters, one in the book Turbocharging the Internal Combustion Engine by N. Watson and M. S. Janota (McMillan Press, 1982) and another one written by D. E. Winterbone in the book The Thermodynamics and Gas Dynamics of Internal Combustion Engines, Vol. II edited by

Decanter Centrifuge Handbook

Title - Decanter Centrifuge Handbook

Scope of Publication
A reference work for process designers and users of decanters, this book aims to bridge the information gap in this field - that between academic theory promoted in student textbooks and case study data in manufacturers sales literature.

Design
It includes information on design and specification, preparing the reader to select and correctly size equipment.
Purchase
As a design or project engineer working with vendors to make final equipment selection, this work provides the readers with the full facts before they start talking to product vendors.

Centrifugal and Rotary Pumps Fundamentals with Applications

Title     - Centrifugal and Rotary Pumps Fundamentals with Applications

Author -  Lev Nelik

Centrifugal and Rotary Pumps offers both professionals and students a concise reference detailing the design, performance, and principles of operation of the different pumps types defined by the Hydraulic Institute. From historical background to the latest trends and technological developments, the author focuses on information with real-world practicality and techniques you can implement immediately.

Beginning with the fundamentals, the text then shifts to real field cases that address applications, pumpage, system interaction, reliability, failure analysis, and practical solutions. By including specification parameters and criteria for the application of various pumps, this comprehensive book provides necessary and timely material that plant engineers, maintenance staff, operators can use and share with colleagues.

Boiler Control Systems Engineering

Author - G.F(jerry) Gilman

This book is for anyone who works with boilers: utilities managers, power plant managers, control systems engineers, maintenance technicians or operators. The information deals primarily with water tube boilers with Induced Draft (ID) and Forced Draft (FD) fan(s) or boilers containing only FD fans. It can also apply to any fuel-fired steam generator. Other books on boiler control have been published; however, they do not cover engineering details on control systems and the setup of the various control functions. Boiler Control Systems Engineering provides specific examples of boiler control including configuration and tuning, valve sizing, and transmitter specifications. This expanded and updated second edition includes drum level compensation equations, additional P&ID
