Diesel engines - troubleshooting and repair
Paul Dempsey
McGraw Hill Professional, 1995 - Transportation - 378 pages
Hearing the sound of an engine you have just repaired is especially satisfying when you consider how costly it can be to pay for professional help. In this easy-to-use guide, author Paul Dempsey demystifies diesel technology, explaining everything you need to know to troubleshoot and fix problems with engines found in farm and lawn equipment, boats, air compressors, and generators.
Diesel Engine Transient Operation
Traditionally, the study of internal combustion engines operation has focused on the steady-state performance. However, the daily driving schedule of automotive and truck engines is inherently related to unsteady conditions. In fact, only a very small portion of a vehicle’s operating pattern is true steady-state, e. g. , when cruising on a motorway. Moreover, the most critical conditions encountered by industrial or marine engines are met during transients too. Unfortunately, the transient operation of turbocharged diesel engines has been associated with slow acceleration rate, hence poor driveability, and overshoot in particulate, gaseous and noise emissions. Despite the relatively large number of published papers, this very important subject has been treated in the past scarcely and only segmentally as regards reference books. Merely two chapters, one in the book Turbocharging the Internal Combustion Engine by N. Watson and M. S. Janota (McMillan Press, 1982) and another one written by D. E. Winterbone in the book The Thermodynamics and Gas Dynamics of Internal Combustion Engines, Vol. II edited by

Introduction to Marine Engineering - D A Taylor Revised second Edition
Title - Introduction to Marine Engineering
Author - D A Taylor
Edition - Second Edition (Revised)
Date - 2003
Progress has been made in many areas of marine engineering since the first edition of this book was published. A greater emphasis is now being placed on the cost-effective operation of ships. This has meant more fuel-efficient engines, less time in port and the need for greater equipment reliability, fewer engineers and more use of automatically operated machinery.
